Friends do you Think Martial arts like Karate, wushu are Practical in street Fights?

in think friends boxing and wresling are more practical in defeating a oponent|||i have been doing karate for over 30 yrs, and i have had few issues in the street with it.

it is not the style it is the that makes the you a fighter, but the persons ability%26#039;s and training.

a black belt does not mean your unbeatable they mark different levels of achievement. a 1st degree only means you have an understanding of the basics.

its not the belt that makes the person but the person that makes the belt. not all black belt know what they are doing or are well trained. just because you have a black belt does not mean squat.

edit:%26gt; katana i should have read what you wrote before i wasted my time

so gannoway when are going to grow out of your dippers. i and stop bottle feeding. you have never set foot in a martial arts class and have no idea what you are even talking about.

your suppose to be a level six and barely have any best answers. that alone is amusing enough for us. the only reason you answer questions is for the points.|||I once read that Muay Thai was the most effective form of martial arts. There was a story about how a Muay Thai expert once knocked out a bunch of Karate experts in seconds. However, a little reflection would suggest that in a real street fight, without any rules, grappling martial arts would reign supreme over striking martial arts. You could perhaps land a few blows at the beginning of a fight, but it is almost impossible to avoid the fight turning into a wrestle. For this reason, for example, I would put my money on a good judo expert beating a karate/taekwondo/kung-fu expert.

Among striking disciplines, I think those that emphasise kicking would be stronger...which may be why that Muay Thai guy did so well...also, Taekwondo would fall into this category.

I love all those Kung-fu styles (the monkey, the snake, the tiger etc) but a general rule of thumb is that the more aesthetically impressive the martial art, the less effective it is in a real street fight!|||Speed to the chin (kick or punch), throat or kneecaps is where it is at. The rest is just cosmetic. The thing about boxing and wrestling is pain management. Those two styles require a person to take a lot of blows and still fight. Also boxers deliver more powerful punches than any other martial artists. Kickboxing + wrestling is probably the best combo martial arts out there.|||It depends far more on the person than the style. In the same style you will find those who are better at one aspect or the other, but few that are masters at all of them. If this were not true, then all fights would be won by people from one style and no untrained street thug would stand a chance. However, we know this is not reality.

But I wish it was since I have experience in both wrestling and karate.

|||Karate, wushu, the sorts are all pretty worthless in a street fight. Boxing essentially is even better in a street fight. I think the example I keep hearing is like 3 out of every 4 fights end on the floor. BJJ is the best ground game out there. As for stand up, Muay thai. I personally do muay thai and love every minute of it. It has so many practical adaptations for street fight situations.|||In street fighting, the techniques are all very different, because there a no rules. If you wanna be a good street fighter, learn Brazilian Jujitsu. You learn grappling and submissions. It%26#039;s a form of mixed martial arts.

My uncle is a martial arts teacher and he knows 7 kinds of different fighting styles.

Or, you could always train to be a NINJA|||I%26#039;ve heard that one of the main things in karate is to not let the opponentt grab you because then you will be screwed if the opponent has any wrestling experience.

Which is why a lot of martial artists are now learning Brazilian Jujitsu, or some other grappling technique. |||I have been in plenty of street fights! Karate works just fine for me as long I keep my distance and keep moving. I would also like to ad that wrestling doesn%26#039;t work well when you have multiple attackers. Maybe the black belt never really fought outside of the dojo, which to me is pointless. |||You are absolutely right. Karate is very rigid with strong stance but their mobility is restricted by these stance. Please don%26#039;t mind Katana and Shihan, they have been training in Karate for soo long and you say that Karate is not practical, hurt their feelings.|||just because he has a black belt does not mean he earned it.

no all place know how to teach there are a lot of belt factories.

--gannowus, and you wonder why we tell you. that you are no longer welcome here.

non of the top contribute rs will be answer your questions any more. and as some one just pointed out you are suppose to be a level 6 and you still don%26#039;t know how to answer questions.

every time you make a statement we see how immature and arrogant you really are|||It%26#039;s not about what art you know. It%26#039;s about your teacher and weather you know how to apply it. Generally, it%26#039;s a good idea to have a mixture of arts, a grappling art and a striking art.|||This is obviously the question of a bruce lee fan.

Only people who have no real training in REAL martial arts are going to agree with you.

The black belt was trained by a person who should not be teaching. |||That actually depends on your weight, if your a small light person wrestling is pretty worthless, wushu might give you a bit of advantage if it was a fair fight. Typical mugging however not much can help.|||In my opinion, ts the not the art, Its the fighter.|||was this a real fight, and its like i said on here once before, most styles teach u enough to get ur self hurt|||I recognize the format and language you use and know you are a troll who has had several accounts banned lol, however I will answer you for the benefit of others. The fact is that okinawan karate contains a lot of stand up grappling motions, as well as take downs and throws. This makes it fairly diffacult to take down a well trained karate-ka unless you have a very good grappling background.

Also do not forget that the main goal of a martial artist is not to fight in street fights, which are about ego, but to defend themselves when given no other choice, and it is about survival.

you also seem to think that black belts are generic and are all the same, however there are vast differences between students and schools. Just because one truck has problems, doesn%26#039;t mean every other truck has problems. In the end it comes down to the person, not the style. You can have the fastest car on earth, which like a style is a tool, yet if you do not practice driving it, and learn well, and have the ability to get the most out of it, you may as well have a pinto.

Edit- Slaya09- People like you are the reason that so many people consider MMA%26#039;s, BJJ. and Muay Thai people to be ignorent and disrespectful. How do you know karate is not effective for self defense? Have you traine dit for years? Show me verifiable statistics that show that 75-95% of fights end up on the ground where both people are able to continue. The fact is you can%26#039;t because they don%26#039;t exist. In fact the people that trumpet that can%26#039;t even get the same % down.

Edit for gannoway- you know nothing about karate, so how do you know how %26quot;rigid%26quot; the stances are? The fact is you don%26#039;t and quite honestly, every time you answer a question you show your ignorence of martial arts. You in the grand scheme of things are insignifigant, however do you not realize that most in this section are tired of you? Go play elswhere kid.
