I%26#039;m a practitioner of martial arts and respect every discipline, but my preferred style is wushu. I know and hear a lot of people diss wushu styles particularly the contemporary forms. Can anyone tell me why people dislike wushu?|||All the previous answers are right! It is a good example of Martial %26quot;ART%26quot;. A system meant to be a lifelong study with physical %26amp; mental health first priority with byproduct of self defence. Unfortunately this art, like many older arts, is not competitive as a form of self defence when compered to Muay Thai, jujutsu, boxing etc.
But practitioners of Wushu, Aikido, kenjutsu, etc accept that and practice it for the Arts sake - not to be able to beat people up.
Everyone these days wants to be self defence effective sooner rather than later. The techniques of the Arts like Wushu require too much discipline for most. You don%26#039;t need to learn to paint like Rembrandt to paint your house.
I have nothing but respect for those with the dedication to practice the %26quot;Arts%26quot; whether they can actually fight or not.|||Wushu is made of styles that are very effective, but are displayed in VERY stylized form for the enjoyment of an audience. Most martial arts can change their moves to made them fancy and flashy, or more%26quot; Wushu%26quot; like. Do not discount Wushu or the abilities of it practitioners.|||all of old styles are like this. in that system every thing is based on heart, not in the body. Wu su is not bad. new students arnt dedicated and patent. if you can be, you can see that every thing is good. be patent:are you love it?|||It%26#039;s not that i dislike the art, but it%26#039;s not very %26#039;martial%26#039; if ya know what i mean. The acrobatic properties of the art make it not so effective in real combat which is what i go for. Realistic fight application to arts and wushu really doesn%26#039;t have much to it that wouldn%26#039;t get you hurt in a real fight with anyone of any other art. It%26#039;s just too acrobatic.
By the way %26#039;Chief%26#039; you%26#039;re wrong about chi, you just don%26#039;t understand it. Someday you%26#039;ll either get it and be able to apply it, or you%26#039;ll just write it off as something else you cannot understand. Martial arts aren%26#039;t about getting in 40 street fights either, i think you%26#039;re missing the points of all martial arts completely.|||Well some consider it really more of a sport than a martial art. Not to mention the rise of Mixed Martial Art where people are starting to question the effectiveness of a fighting style. I still think wushi is pretty cool though.|||People dislike Wu Shu and traditional martial arts becuase they lack the discipline to do the training necessary to make them effective. Shoalin monks train 8 hours per day, 6 days per week with only 1 month off per year. Who in modern times has that kind of dedication?
To make she subtleties of some arts effective one must train it repeatedly and build it up to a point where it can be applied randomly and eventually at full speed. This is a slow process but one well worth taking as it will enhance your skills in the end. Westerners are greedy with their learning, we want everything yesterday without the work, yet in the old days you just did what you were told and trained one thing over and over again until you could do it. If it took you 6 months to throw 1 type of punch correctly that%26#039;s what you would do. I%26#039;ve seen a documentary where an 8 year old had swollen hands because his master made him stand in a horse stance and punch a bag for hours on end.|||personally i fell betrayed by wushu , and pretty much all forms of kung fu. I practiced wushu and tkd since i was like 8 , and i got in a lot of street fights when i was 13-17, and i got my *** handed to me alot by other fighters who did boxing , or wrestling , and the one that really got me Brazilian ju jitsu. wushu and kung fu had been glorified by Hollywood for so long I really though i could focus my %26quot;chi%26quot; or what ever and punch through stones lol. but the truth is there is no chi , or enlightenment in fighting. lift weights , take supplements , and be aggressive , people diss wushu because it is a lie , a glorified way of what true battle really is. fighting isnt pretty with little gowns spinning in the air , and snappy blocks. its bone breaking ground and pound, and wushu is not about that . wushu is more of ....like recreational swimming , or ballet. lol
