What is wushu?

I have a student who has to research this sport, but she knows very little English. How can I explain wushu to her?

He added that it comes from words that mean %26#039;stop fight%26#039;. I think that implies to either stop a fight offensively or defensively. One way or another, end it quickly and decisively, hopefully without seriously maiming the opponent.
