What are people's opinions of Wushu?

I%26#039;ve been doing wushu for over a year now and I%26#039;m interested to gauge other people%26#039;s opinions of what I consider a brilliant martial art since I know a lot of people don%26#039;t like it. Please try to be honest but not offensive.|||There are many different types of wushu, it%26#039;s sort of a catch all term, like kung fu. Depending on how you train of course, I think it is a very good martial art. There is no such thing as a bad martial art, just bad practitioners.|||I think they%26#039;re beautiful arts, and promotes athleticism. I prefer the practicality of Nanquan Wushu (Southern), lower stances, stronger more complicated hand techniques. But I also like gymnastic abilities of a Chanquan practioner when they perform there Talou (forms). Practicality is iffy though, but Jet Li (former Wushu champion) seems to apply it very well in his movies. So overall positives.|||I don%26#039;t know much about martial arts, but Wushu looks pretty impressive. I believe it was embraced by the Chinese as an alternative to Shaolin Kung Fu.|||i think it%26#039;s great and will keep you fit and healthy in mind body and spirit...enjoy your path to enlightenment.. do you use meditation to help you go deeper?|||Wushu means the arts of fighting ie martial arts. There are many types of that in China. Kung Fu is the same thing, excepted it was mainly named by the Southern Chinese.

The main streams of the Chinese martial arts are divided by the North (legwork, big movement, weaponry and complicated strategies) and South (horse stand, fistwork, short distance fighting). It can also be divided by their origin - Shaolin temple and Mount WuTang.

Japanese Karate (empty hand) was original called the fighting skill from Tang (China), it was indeed from China. Other fighting skills around Asia could have a similar origins|||My boyfriend took me to see the Shaolin Monks and Wushu Warriors, amazing is all I can say!Stick to it it will be worth it,keep pursuing it please, it%26#039;s so impressive!Well done you!|||i have no idea what it is....but im interested in learning self defense though
