Will learning wushu makes you short?

I%26#039;m thinking of letting my 7 years old son learn wushu. However I heard that it%26#039;ll affect his growth in height. Is it true?|||i%26#039;m not sure where you got that idea. Thats like saying doing %26quot;figure skating%26quot; will turn your girl into a midget... its a little bit weird and not scientific. Actually, wushu increases people%26#039;s flexibility, so if anything he%26#039;d probably end up looking taller. Height has very little to do with %26quot;activities%26quot; or %26quot;sports%26quot; and it has more to do with genetics than anything else. Sports such as wushu actually help with growth and flexibility, if you aren%26#039;t flexible you will end up looking shorter in the long run and not hav e as much range of motion.

all the kids i know who do wushu haven%26#039;t had a stunted growth rate because of it.|||It is so true...|||No.|||It will not effect his height. Height is determined by genetics not martial arts.|||sure, why not...it hurts trying to know how you think.|||No, I don%26#039;t see why it would. If you%26#039;re worried about height as others here have said genetics plays a role, but so does nutrition. I%26#039;d be more concerned about getting exercise (which wushu is) and eating healthy.|||Not sure. I heard that weight lifting makes ppl short while basket ball makes ppl tall. (no disrespect to weight lifting here, just a rumor i heard.. body uses most of nutrients to build muscle mass instead of height..)

If you want to play safe, maybe you will want your son to take up both basket ball and wu shu at the same time. Basket ball is a fun fast game, your son will love it =)
